Using a different fountain?

Contact Sovelivee support before using an SL-PFF filter with another model. Do not bend, cut or force a cartridge into a holder.

Prepare a new SL-PFF filter

Before you begin

Unplug the fountain and wash your hands. Keep loose filters and packaging away from pets and children. Remove all packaging and check the new cartridge for damage. Do not install a damaged filter.

Rinse, soak for 3–5 minutes, then rinse again

  1. Rinse the new SL-PFF cartridge with clean drinking water.
  2. Soak it in a separate container of clean drinking water for 3–5 minutes.
  3. Rinse it again before fitting it into the fountain's filter holder.

Do not soak the cartridge in the fountain tank. Use water only on the cartridge; do not add soap or detergent. Follow your fountain manual for the pump sponge's preparation and care.

Install or replace the filter

1. Remove the old cartridge and clean

Keep the fountain unplugged. Remove the used filter, if present. Clean and rinse the filter holder and water-contact parts as directed in your fountain manual. Clean the fountain and pump at each filter change as well as on their regular maintenance schedule.

2. Prepare and fit the new cartridge

Complete the rinse, separate-container soak and second rinse before installation. Place the cartridge securely in its holder as directed for your fountain. Do not bend, cut or force it into place.

3. Reassemble, refill and restart

Reassemble the fountain and add fresh drinking water to the level specified in its manual. Follow the model's instructions for reconnecting power, then check that water circulates normally.

4. Record the dates

Write down the installation date and your planned next replacement date in the manual's replacement record or your own notes. Follow the timing below and replace sooner if the cartridge's condition requires it.

Replacement timing, care and storage

When should I replace an SL-PFF filter?

Replace an SL-PFF cartridge every 2–4 weeks, adjusting to water quality and use. You may choose a more frequent 1–2-week interval for a fresher drinking experience. These intervals are guidance, not a fixed service-life guarantee.

Replace the cartridge sooner in any of these situations:

  • The cartridge turns yellow or unusually dark.
  • The cartridge feels slimy, is damaged or has an odor.
  • Water flow remains weak after you clean the fountain and check that the cartridge is seated correctly.
SL-PFF care schedule
When Action
During use Check water level and debris. Change the drinking water as needed based on water quality and use.
Regularly and at each filter change Unplug the fountain. Clean its drinking surface, tank, filter holder and pump as directed in the fountain manual. Rinse thoroughly.
Every 2–4 weeks, or sooner when needed Replace the cartridge. A 1–2-week interval is an option; check its condition rather than waiting for the planned date when a problem appears.

Can I wash and reuse an SL-PFF filter?

The SL-PFF is a disposable cartridge. Rinse it with water only. Do not use soap or detergent, refill or regenerate it, boil it or put it in a dishwasher. Rinsing does not reset the replacement schedule. Clean other fountain parts according to the relevant fountain manual.

How should I store unused filters?

Keep unused SL-PFF filters sealed in their original packaging in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Storage limits are 0–45°C (32–113°F) and 40–60% relative humidity. Do not install a damaged cartridge.

SL-PFF filter materials

The SL-PFF has a six-layer filtration structure and includes dual-layer polypropylene fiber. Its filter materials are:

  • Polypropylene (PP) fiber
  • Nonwoven fabric
  • Activated carbon
  • Resin
  • KDF copper-zinc media
  • Quartz sand

Use water that is already safe to drink; the cartridge does not disinfect water or make contaminated water safe.

Troubleshoot SL-PFF filter issues

Unplug the fountain before opening it, checking filter placement, replacing a cartridge or cleaning parts. Follow your fountain manual when reassembling and restarting it.

Weak water flow

With power disconnected, check the water level, filter placement and pump cleanliness. Replace a clogged filter. If flow remains weak after cleaning the fountain and checking that the cartridge is seated correctly, replace the cartridge.

Black specks during rinsing or use

A small amount of carbon dust may appear during the first rinse of an SL-PFF filter. Rinse with water only and clean the drinking bowl. Replace the filter if particles continue to appear, large granules come out or the outer layer is damaged.

Odor or slime

Unplug the fountain, replace the filter and clean the fountain and pump. Refill with fresh drinking water and restart as directed in the fountain manual. Review the cleaning and replacement schedule.

The cartridge does not fit

Check that your fountain is one of the compatible models. Do not bend, cut or force the cartridge into place. Contact support with your fountain model and filter lot number, if available.
