Puppy Water Intake Planner

Estimate daily water by weight and weaning stage. Add bowl-check times for a fully weaned puppy.

Your inputs

Has your puppy finished weaning?
  1. Choose fully weaned when your puppy drinks independently and no longer depends on milk. Age alone is not enough.
  2. The milk-fed result includes milk or correctly prepared formula. Do not give that amount as extra plain water.
  3. For a fully weaned puppy, you can add reminders to check the bowl. Keep water available between checks.

Your result

Enter your measurements and calculate.

Milk-fed results include milk or correctly prepared formula; they are not extra plain water or a feeding recipe.

How much water should a puppy drink each day?

The American Kennel Club gives 0.5 to 1 US fl oz per pound daily as a general reference for older, fully weaned puppies. Age in weeks alone does not tell you whether a puppy is weaned. VCA’s guidance for milk-fed puppies gives 130 to 220 mL/kg/day of total fluid, including milk. Optional bowl checks are for fully weaned puppies; keep water available between checks.

Formula & sources

Weaned puppy: weight in lb × 14.7868–29.5735 mL/lb/day, using the AKC reference. Milk-fed puppy: weight in kg × 130–220 mL/kg/day of total fluid, using VCA’s range. Observation times are reminders to check the bowl for a fully weaned puppy. They do not divide the daily result into servings.

Common questions

Which puppy stage should I choose?

Choose fully weaned when your puppy drinks independently and no longer depends on milk. Age in weeks alone is not enough to choose this setting.

Does the milk-fed result mean extra water?

No. Milk-fed results cover total fluid, including milk. Follow the milk replacer’s preparation instructions; the result is not extra plain water.

Should water be removed between checks?

No. Bowl checks are observation times. Keep fresh water available between them; follow individual veterinary care instructions.
